On 21 May 2021, on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the world-famous "Scottish Book" and due to the contribution of the Lviv School of Mathematics to the development of world mathematics, the Lviv Mathematical Society is unveiling an information plaque on the facade of the building No.27 on Shevchenko Ave., that in the first half of the XX century housed the legendary Café "Szkocka" (the Scottish Café), a cult place for mathematicians from all around the world.

In "Szkocka", Lviv mathematicians and their guests held mathematical discussions and inscribed the most important open problems into The Scottish Book (1935–1941), which was kept in this Café. In May 2014, the building of the Scottish Café was given a new lease of life by the opening of a restaurant called "Szkocka". In keeping its historical background, "Szkocka" holds a copy of the original "Scottish Book", as well as the modern "Lviv Scottish Book", founded by Lviv mathematicians of the XXI century, who continue to create the mathematical glory of the city.

Within the event, on Thursday, 20 May 2021, a scientific ZOOM-seminar of the Lviv Mathematical Society will be held with the reports of Ukrainian mathematicians who solved the problems from the Scottish Book, namely

  1. T. O. Banakh (Lviv) – problems 1, 7;
  2. A. M. Plichko (Kropyvnytskyi) – problem 89;
  3. V. M. Kadets (Kharkiv) – problem 106;
  4. A. V. Zagorodnyuk (Ivano-Frankivsk) – problems 55, 56, 75;
  5. V. V. Mykhaylyuk (Chernivtsi) – problems 66, 158;
  6. A. Eremenko (Lviv, Kharkiv – West Lafayette, USA) – problem 184.

The ceremony of unveiling the information plaque about the Lviv School of Mathematics on the facade of the restaurant "Szkocka" will take place on Friday, May 21, on the birthday of one of the representatives of the Lviv School of Mathematics, Professor of Lviv University, Stefan Banach’s successor as a Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, full member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society Myron Zarytskyi (May 21, 1889 – August 19, 1961). The Ceremony will be live-streamed on Facebook and the youtube channel of the Lviv Mathematical Society (Lviv Math Society, ).
